SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Statewide LGBT advocacy organization Equality Illinois will return to the Illinois State Fair for a fourth "straight" year and embrace the annual extravaganza's "Growing Illinois" 2015 theme with a message of a lived equality for all Illinoisans.
"We are focusing on our #LIVEequal campaign this year, an effort to ensure that a true lived equality exists for LGBT Illinoisans throughout the state," said Patty Dillon, the Director of Field Operations of Equality Illinois.
"Illinois can grow not only because it has the laws in place that guarantee legal equality but because it has built a bipartisan legacy of fair and equal treatment for all of its residents. Time and again we've heard from business leaders that they look for that asset when deciding where to locate and expand their businesses, contributing to a 'Growing Illinois'," Dillon said.
The Equality Illinois booth will be staffed through the entire run of the fair August 13-23 and is partnering with LGBT-supportive organizations from central Illinois to make sure local issues and points of contact are also shared. The organizations are CORAL on Monday, Aug. 17, Heartland Metropolitan Community Church on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Springfield Chapter of PFLAG on Thursday, Aug. 20, and Phoenix Center on Friday, Aug. 21.
