ST. LOUIS, Mo - STL Equality Games, LLC has confirmed rumors swirling on social media late yesterday that the 2016 North America OutGames have been cancelled. The weeklong sporting, cultural and human rights event was slated to take place in St. Louis from May 28 through June 4, 2016.

outgamesadOutGames organizer and President of Team St. Louis Alice Tejada and her friend Latoria Williams told #Boom that while there will be plenty of time to do a post-mortem, finances and poor registration were to blame.

“It’s a disappointment when an event as exciting as the OutGames has to be shelved," said Tejada in a statement, who's called the OutGames process birthing a two year baby. "St. Louis has a long‐standing commitment to a healthy LGBTQ community, and our organization will continue to advocate for health, inclusion and athletics in the region.”

"GLISA North America is deeply disappointed by the cancellation of the St. Louis OutGames as it would have been a wonderful celebration of equality and friendly competition, learning and celebration," said Greg Larocque, President of GLISA North America, the organizing body of OutGames. "GLISA North America wants to acknowledge the tremendous work of the Board of STL Equality Games LLC. The cancellation of this event in no way diminishes their good work. They are no less a valued member of the GLISA NA family, despite this unfortunate turn of events,"

According to Tejada, paid registrants will be contacted regarding refund opportunities.
