ST. LOUIS - A formal announcement declaring St. Louis as the host city for the 2016 North America OutGames was made at the Missouri History Museum on Friday, April 18.
The presentation by St. Louis Equality Games LLC in partnership with St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay; St. Louis County Executive Charles Dooley, St. Louis Convention and Visitor’s Commission President, Kitty Ratcliffe and PROMO Executive Director, A.J. Bockelman lauded that St. Louis will be hosting a major week-long Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Allied (LGBTQIA) event.
St. Louis Equality Games LLC, a subsidiary of Team Saint Louis, Inc says that over five thousand participants from across the continent are expected to meet in St. Louis for the event. The OutGames are slated for May 27 through June 4, 2016.
The North America OutGames were created by the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association and is held every two to four years. The event marquees multi-sport competition, human rights and culture to support and advance the welfare of LGBT people in North America.
Over twelve sports competitions will be held, these include: bowling, tennis, softball, rugby, golf, swimming and diving, sports climbing/ bouldering, darts, billiards, road races: 5k, 10k, marathon and half marathon, indoor volleyball and sand volleyball.
St. Louis will be the first U.S. city to host the OutGames. Previous OutGames host cities include Calgary and Vancouver, respectively.
