ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Continuing its longstanding support of scholarship within the St. Louis lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, and ally (LGBTQIA) community, Pride St. Louis, Inc. announced Saturday the opening of the application period for the 2015 Pride St. Louis Scholarship. The Scholarship is awarded annually to St. Louis area LGBTQIA student(s), student children of an LGBTQIA parent or student allies of the LGBTQIA community to provide financial assistance to attend a post-secondary undergraduate institution.

“We are pleased to offer this scholarship to those in our LGBTQIA community who have shown great leadership, volunteerism and courage.” states Matt Harper, President of Pride St. Louis, Inc. “Taking the initiative to support our own community is essential: the foundation which enables us to better educate, empower and push towards the future of equality.”

Pride St. Louis LGBTQIA Scholarship Qualifications:

• Be self-identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans*, questioning, intersex, asexual or a straight ally (LGBTQIA), a student child of an LGBTQIA parent, or student ally of the LGBTQIA community
• Be in the process of applying to, or currently attending a post-secondary undergraduate institution (college, university, community college or vocational school). There is no maximum age limitation
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4 point scale
• Complete the entire application process

Required Materials:

1. Online Form (submitted digitally through this form or by mail)
2. Copy of transcript to verify GPA
3. Two letters of recommendations from a teacher, school administrator, counselor, employer, or community leader highlighting community activism and leadership skills.
4. A 500 word typed essay that answers; “What role do you think an organization like Pride St. Louis, Inc. can play in the community and how can you contribute to this vision?”
