ST. LOUIS – Around 50 people participated in a rally held at Cor Jesu Academy in Affton, Sept. 5, following news reports detailing the termination of two gay faculty members at the all-girls Catholic school.

The “Sharing Our Love” action was organized by ShowMeNoHate and supported by Cor Jesu Alumni, Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis and Faith Aloud.

ShowMeNoHate is a state-wide coalition of businesses and individuals seeking full recognition of marriage equality in Missouri.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports Cor Jesu officials dismissed the lesbian couple after they learned that they planned to live together. Despite having married in New York, the school maintained the couple's lesbian relationship violated the morality clause the two had signed when they were hired that required employees to live “a life consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.”
