ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Darkness, St. Louis' longest-running haunted house, is celebrating Its 25th Year of Fear during the 2018 haunt season.  


Darkness18Rated as America's best haunted house, The Darkness is opening with a total renovation to make it longer and more terrifying than ever before. Doubling in size, the seasonal attraction now features all-new offerings, including Zombie Laser Tag where guests hunt, kill and eradicate "real" zombies. The Darkness also features The Hive live zombie experience.

The renovation of The Darkness has added a new indoor interactive queue line with monsters, special effects, and a new three-minute Jigsaw Horror Escape Room inside the facility's Monster Museum. 


"It's amazing to think that this business started out as a high school job and now my company builds attractions and amusements all over the world," said St. Louisan Larry Kirchner, owner of The Darkness.  


The horror masters from The Darkness have built attractions for such clients as Universal Studios, Six Flags, Cedar Point, Sea World, Tampa Busch Gardens, and rides based on Spider-Man, Captain America, James Bond and Garfield the Cat.

The Darkness will be open for the 2018 haunt season on September 21-22 and 28-29 from 7:30 to 11 p.m.; October 5 - 7, then every Thursday through Sunday night starting October 11. Beginning October 19, the attraction will be open nightly through Halloween, October 31. The Darkness will keep the fear going November 2, 3 and 10, from 7 to 11 p.m. November 10 is Black Out Night where guests can go through the haunt with just a glow stick for light. Learn more at



This year at The Darkness guests can scream like a rock star with a VIP experience. Groups can use the new VIP party room from 5-7 p.m. Filled with games, horror-themed pinballs, a three-minute horror escape, horror movies and much more, the new room is perfect for pre-fright gatherings. St Louis Escape, featuring the region's top themed escape rooms, is located inside the Darkness complex. From the creators of The Darkness, the all-new haunted house at the old Lemp Brewey is ready to make everyone scream. House of Occult will be the only all-new Haunted House in St Louis in 2018. Come face to face with demons and confusing mazes, inside a pitch black cavern of the occult in the former brewery's legendary underground caves.  The Lemp is located just one mile from The Darkness and offers a combo ticket to both attractions.
