ST. LOUIS, Mo. - PROMO PAC, Missouri's statewide organization advocating for LGBTQ equality through the electoral process, has announced its endorsements of pro-equality candidates for the Missouri Primary Election on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. 

 

The PROMO PAC board carefully chose these candidates based on interviews and questions from this survey.

2018 State Senate Endorsements

 

SD 2 – Patrice Billings
Having out LGBTQ representation in the Capitol gives us a critical seat at the table, giving other elected officials the opportunity to build close relationships with LGBTQ colleagues and understand our issues on a deeper level. There are currently ZERO out LGBTQ Senators in Missouri. Additionally, Patrice Billings is running against Sen. Bob Onder, who was the lead sponsor of the 2016 anti-LGBTQ bill SJR 39, a bill that would have allowed services to be denied to same-sex couples and LGBTQ individuals.

SD 4 – Sen. Jake Hummel
Sen. Hummel is a dedicated, outspoken supporter of LGBTQ equality, and PROMO PAC believes it is especially important to have an ally’s voice like Sen. Hummel’s in the Senate.

 

SD 8 – Hillary Shields
Hillary Shields is a strong supporter of LGBTQ equality and believes in the importance of updating laws, while also changing hearts and minds. 

 

SD 14 – Sen. Joe Adams*
Sen. Adams is a proud supporter of LGBTQ equality, as well as an outspoken co-sponsor of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act. He is a seasoned and dedicated ally of the LGBTQ community.

 

SD 14 – Sen. Sharon Pace*
Sen. Pace was on the House committee that finally defeated the 2016 anti-LGBTQ religious exemption bill SJR 39. In her role on that critical committee, she spoke out against discrimination, giving an impassioned speech before voting against the bill and helping to persuade her colleagues to vote with her. In the Capitol, she is especially outspoken against bullying.

 

SD 16 – Ryan Dillon
Having out LGBTQ representation in the Capitol gives us a critical seat at the table, giving other elected officials the opportunity to build close relationships with LGBTQ colleagues and understand our issues on a deeper level. If elected, Ryan Dillon would be the ONLY out LGBTQ Senator in Missouri.

 

SD 24 – Sen. Jill Schupp
Sen. Schupp is one of Missouri’s most dedicated allies in the Senate. In 2016, she was one of eight Senators who filibustered for 39 hours, working to defeat the anti-LGBTQ religious exemption bill SJR 39. In 2017, she served on the Senate Committee that heard testimony on a harmful bill that targeted transgender students. Every year, she is the main sponsor of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act and a tireless defender of LGBTQ equality.

HD 15 – Rep. Jon Carpenter
Rep. Jon Carpenter is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community. He is a consistent supporter of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA) and regularly outspoken on equality in the Capitol.

Rep. Ingrid Burnett is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and a consistent supporter of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA).

 

HD 24 – Rep. Judy Morgan
Rep. Judy Morgan is an incredible ally to the LGBTQ community. She is a consistent co-sponsor of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act and has been the lead sponsor on an inclusive anti-bullying bill.

 

HD 26 – Dylan Burd*
Having out LGBTQ representation in the Capitol gives us a critical seat at the table, giving other elected officials the opportunity to build close relationships with LGBTQ colleagues and understand our issues on a deeper level. There are currently only two out LGBTQ representatives in the Missouri House.

 

HD 26 – Ashley Bland Manlove*
Ashley Bland Manlove is a committed supporter of LGBTQ equality and is dedicated to advancing pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives. The LGBTQ community would benefit greatly with her as their State Representative.

 

HD 27 – Rep. Richard Brown
Rep. Richard Brown is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and a consistent supporter of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA).

 

HD 43 – Adela Falk [R]*
Adela Falk views on limited government lead her support for LGBTQ equality. Having Republican allies and working across the aisle in the Capitol is critical to our progress. LGBTQ equality is not a partisan issue.

 

HD 43 – Jamie Blair [D]*
Jamie Blair is a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a committed supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 45 – Rep. Kip Kendrick
Rep. Kip Kendrick is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and a consistent supporter of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA).

 

HD 46 – Rep. Martha Stevens
Rep. Martha Stevens co-sponsored the very first bill to ban conversion therapy against minors in Missouri, the Youth Mental Health Preservation Act. She is a dedicated ally, and regularly seeks out new opportunities to support LGBTQ equality through legislation.

 

HD 60 – Kevin Nelson
Kevin Nelson is an ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a committed supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 69 – Rep. Gretchen Bangert
Rep. Bangert is a committed ally to LGBTQ equality in the Capitol.

 

HD 71 – LaDonna Applebaum
LaDonna Applebaum is an ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a committed supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 72 –  Doug Clemens
Doug Clemens is a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ community and a long-time supporter of PROMO. He regularly joins PROMO during the Pride parade and at PROMO events. Doug Clemens has compassion and a deep understanding for the legislative needs of the LGBTQ community in Missouri.

 

HD 73 – Raychel Proudie
Raychel Proudie is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a passionate supporter of pro-equality bills in the Capitol. The Missouri House of Representatives needs a voice like hers.

 

HD 79 – J.P. Johnson 
J.P. Johnson served as one of the LGBTQ Liaisons to Mayor Francis Slay during his time in the Mayor’s office. J.P. has a deep understanding for the needs of the LGBTQ community and would be a dedicated ally to the community as State Representative.

 

HD 82 – Rep. Donna Baringer
When Rep. Baringer was the 16th Ward Alderwoman, she served as a Civil Rights Enforcement Agency (CREA) Commissioner, giving her a unique perspective on the need to protect people, including those who are LGBTQ from discrimination.

 

HD 84 – Brad Bakker
Brad Bakker is a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a committed supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 86 – Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal
In 2016, Sen. Chappelle-Nadal helped defeat the anti-LGBTQ religious exemptions bill as one of the original eight Senators who stood and filibustered on the Senate floor. In 2017, she served on the Senate Committee that heard testimony on a harmful bill that targeted transgender students. During testimony, she took time to publicly thank a young person who testified about the high rates of violence against transwomen of color, ensuring that all of the Senators on the committee heard the importance of that message.

 

HD 87 – Ian Mackey
Having out LGBTQ representation in the Capitol gives us a critical seat at the table, giving other elected officials the opportunity to build close relationships with LGBTQ colleagues and understand our issues on a deeper level. PROMO PAC would be proud to have Ian be a representative of our community in the Capitol.

 

HD 88 – Rep. Tracy McCreery
It is difficult to match Rep. McCreery’s dedication and allyship to LGBTQ equality. Rep. McCreery is consistent co-sponsor of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act and introduced the very first bill to ban conversion therapy against minors in Missouri, the Youth Mental Health Preservation Act. She is constantly and consistently standing up for LGBTQ equality in the Capitol, in her district, and across the state.

 

HD 90 – Rep. Deb Lavender
Rep. Deb Lavender is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community. She is a consistent supporter of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA) and regularly outspoken on equality in the Capitol.

 

HD 92 – Rep. Doug Beck
Rep. Beck is a dedicated ally in the Capitol. He is always looking for new opportunities to be the best ally he can be to the LGBTQ community in his district and across the state, and he is outspoken and compassionate in his support.

 

HD 100 – Helena Webb
Helena Webb is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a dedicated, outspoken supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 105 – Scott Cernicek
Scott Cernicek is a dedicated ally to the LGBTQ community and would be a committed supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 118 – Barbara Marco
Barbara Marco is a committed ally to the LGBTQ community and would be an outspoken supporter of pro-equality legislation if elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.

 

HD 132 – Rep. Crystal Quade
It is difficult to match Rep. Crystal Quade’s dedication and allyship to LGBTQ equality. Rep. Quade is an outspoken supporter and co-sponsor of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act. She is constantly and consistently standing up for LGBTQ equality in the Capitol, in her district, and across the state. All of Missouri benefits from Rep. Quade’s representation in the Capitol.

 

HD 136 – Jeff Munzinger
As a proud PFLAG leader and LGBTQ ally, Jeff Munzinger understands the importance for LGBTQ equality. Jeff Munzinger has made an incredible difference in Springfield and in SWMO for LGBTQ people and families, through his compassionate dedication to PFLAG, the No Repeal Campaign, and LGBTQ equality efforts overall.
