ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Courage Scholarship (MCS) announced last week that their Pride through Education, Networks & Civic Engagement (PENCE) Campaign raised over $2700 from grassroots supporters. The funds will be used to award LGBTQ students who demonstrate courage in the face of adversity and who work to create change in their schools and communities through education, outreach, and community organizing. MCS recognizes the need to support the next generation of LGBTQ leaders who are defending the hard-won progress of LGBTQ people currently being rolled back.

For each donation, MCS is sending a note to the White House with a simple message: “I support LGBTQ students and their rights. So should you.”

“Since MCS began in 2015, we have relied on grassroots support from people across Missouri and the country," said MCS founder and co-chair, Jacob Wilson. "The PENCE Campaign was no exception – half of our donations were from Missouri and the rest from people in 11 states, many with ties to the Missouri. We are grateful to the many supporters who chipped in what they could, and because of their generosity, we are able to award three additional $1000 awards in 2018. MCS wants to send a message to LGBTQ youth across Missouri: have courage and know that you are loved, have value, and deserve respect.”

MCS acknowledges, affirms, and rewards college bound students who demonstrate courage and take a stand for social justice. All money raised through the PENCE Campaign will fund scholarships for college bound seniors.

MCS is a federally recognized 501c3 organization; all donations are tax-exempt. For further information visit www.courage-scholarship.org.
