ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The 37th annual PrideFest celebration returns to Soldiers Memorial in downtown St. Louis, June 24 - 26, 2016. Pride St. Louis, Inc., organizers of the preeminent St. Louis LGBTQIA festival and parade, are pleased to announce the release of the official 2016 PrideFest logo and theme: 'Solidarity Through Pride.' The logo and theme were chosen in accordance with Interpride, which is an international organization responsible for empowering Pride organizers worldwide.

“Our theme for this year, 'Solidarity Through Pride', recognizes the diversity within the greater St. Louis region as well as the intersectionality of LGBTQIA identities and the call for solidarity and support among all parts of our community,” said St. Louis Pride President Matt Harper.

Intersectionality is the overlapping of social identities and relates to the concept of how discrimination against one ultimately represents discrimination against all. Intersectionality as well as diversity and discrimination were just a few of the topics discussed and addressed at a recent Pride St. Louis Town Hall meeting at the Pride St. Louis Office. This has also been the topic of on-going discussion in recent years and signifies the need for continued unity and education.

“The 2016 theme also reminds the LGBTQIA and allied community that there is a continued need for unity in order to gain equality for all," added Pride St. Louis Community Outreach Director, Leon Braxton. "In addition to marriage equality, we must unite to fight the epidemic of violence against trans women of color, eliminate trans- and bi-phobia, homophobia, racism, antisemitism and to ensure the protection of our youth.”
