ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri Courage Scholarship (MCS) and Pride St. Louis, Inc. are happy to announce the launch of our shared scholarship application. Together, MCS and Pride plan to award up to $20,000 in scholarships for 2016.


The application is online at www.tinyurl.com/CourageApp and is open until March 31, 2016.


Missouri Courage Scholarshipwill give the following three awards:


• The Missouri Courage Award (MCA) is dedicated to a Missouri student who has either demonstrated their commitment or shows great potential to work for change in their community that advances the lives of LGBTQIA people and other groups that have historically faced discrimination. The MCA will have a minimum value of $1000 with a maximum value of $3000.


• The Rural Courage Award (RCA)is dedicated to a student residing in Dent County, Missouri who has either demonstrated their commitment or shows great potential to work for change in their community that advances the lives of LGBTQIA people and other groups that have historically faced discrimination. If there are no applications from students residing in Dent County, preference for the award will be given to a student from a surrounding county or other rural part of the state. The RCA will have a minimum value of $1000 with a maximum value of $3000.


• The Trans Courage Award (TCA)is dedicated each year to a Missouri student who identifies as transgender and who has either demonstrated their commitment or shows great potential to work for change in their community that advances the lives of LGBTQIA people and other groups that have historically faced discrimination. The TCA will have a minimum value of $1000 with a maximum value of $3000. If there are no applications from students identifying as transgender, an additional MCA can be awarded at the discretion of the scholarship committee.


Pride St. Louis awards scholarships annually to St. Louis area LGBTQIA students, student/children of LGBTQIA parents, and student allies of the LGBTQIA community. The scholarships are intended to provide financial assistance in order to attend a post-secondary undergraduate institution. Graduate students are eligible to receive the scholarship as well. “We are pleased to offer this scholarship to those in our LGBTQIA community who have shown great leadership, volunteerism and courage.” said Matt Harper, President of Pride St. Louis, Inc. “Taking the initiative to support our own community is essential: the foundation which enables us to better educate, empower and push towards the future of equality.”
