The owners of the Miss Gay Illinois America pageant announced this week that the preliminary to Miss Gay America will be switching from a state pageant to a limited regional pageant.

Chad Johnson and Curt Godier of C&C Productions made the announcement on the pageant’s Facebook page. The changes will go into effect for the 2015 pageant season with the following requirements:

"The residency requirements for potential contestants who wish to enter the Miss Gay Illinois America pageant is defined as: any qualified person whose primary residence (for a minimum of 90 days) is located in the State of Illinois or within the state boundaries of a contiguous state to the State of Illinois (which does not have a state pageant) further defined as Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and Wisconsin."

Miss Gay Illinois has operated as a state preliminary since returning in 2009. Contestants were required to be a resident of the state of Illinois, or live within 25-miles of the Illinois boarder in a contiguous state. Johnson and Godier believe that the new changes will allow the contest to draw from a wider contestant base and strengthen the pageant.

Founded in 1973, Miss Gay Illinois is among the oldest preliminaries to the storied Miss Gay America female impersonation franchise, now in it’s 43rd year.

C&C Productions also announced the addition of Anthony Volkman as Pageant Director for MGIA. Volkman, who is Diva Coppafeel, this year’s reigning Miss Illinois, will work closely with the pageant owners and behind the scenes putting the pageant together.

Miss Gay Illinois America 2014 “Puttin on the Glitz” will be held August 22-23 at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis honoring Coppafeel and MGA 2014 Jessica Jade. The pageant will be emceed by MGA 2000 Catia Lee Love as twelve qualified contestants compete over two days in the categories of Male Interview, Evening Gown, Solo Talent, On Stage Question and Long Talent. Miss Gay America – sometimes referred to as the “boy pageant” – requires that its contestants refrain from taking hormones or having any body work done below the neck.
